Japanese Learner’s Perception of OJAD as a Japanese Accent Learning Media

Abstract

This study reveals the analysis of the Japanese learner’s perception about online media’s role OJAD (Online Japanese Accent Dictionary) as a media to enhance the awareness and understanding of the Japanese accent. The researcher used primary data in the study in form of respondents' responses to questionnaires. Respondents in this study were 140 Japanese learners. The results showed that according to respondents, the website OJAD is easy to understand and use. Among the 4 tools in OJAD such as Word Search, Verb Suffix Search, Text Search, and Suzuki-kun Prosody Tutor, Suzuki-kun Prosody Tutor’s tools is the most widely used by learners because it is very useful for learners to be able to directly understand Japanese accents in sentences and also improving the ability of pronunciation, especially when doing speech or presentation in Japanese. Moreover, the material is easy to understand and the explanation is very detail which is equipped with sound files. After studying the OJAD website for a short period of time, respondents have the desire to use the OJAD website continuously and also to recommend this OJAD website to other Japanese learners. By learning the OJAD website, respondents have the opinion that Japanese accents are important to learn. The respondents are eager to learn more about Japanese accents.
